The New Drata Experience centers design with a modern stack ready for enterprise-scale GRC+A

Why We Put Design at the Center

Products grow the way companies do: you don’t throw out what got you here, you just outgrow it. Our customers run global, enterprise-grade GRC programs. They don’t just want “more features.” They need systems that flex to ambiguity and scale without adding risk and complexity.

That’s the story of the New Drata Experience. It’s not a coat of paint. It’s a user-centered, design-led rebuild of our information architecture, interaction patterns, and front-end technology stack, helping teams see value faster, with clarity, inclusivity, and control.

Lessons We Learned

What we heard from our customers was unanimous:

  • Our customers need relationships, not just screens. Risks, controls, evidence, and policies must connect visibly so users understand how even the smallest datum impacts the entire program.
  • Teams need both smaller next steps and bigger work surfaces. We learned that guided action leads to deeper understanding of the overall GRC posture and more focus.
  • Enterprise complexity demands configurability. Our biggest competitor is Excel, and we understand why. Our customers need flexibility and have accepted tedious spreadsheet management to get it.
  • Accessibility can’t be an afterthought. If some teammates can’t use a flow, the flow is broken.
  • AI is a first-class citizen. Our customers no longer see AI as an experiment: it’s mission-critical. We needed to truly weave AI into the entire experience.

You can’t drop a handful of blueberries next to a muffin and call it a “blueberry muffin.” In the same way, you can’t call a platform “agentic” because you sprinkled on a few AI features. Drata’s customers need high-altitude visibility, deep configuration, accessibility and agentic workflows baked in.

Simple, Configurable, and Accessible by Design

Four principles anchor our product at Drata, and the new Drata Experience is no exception.

  • Simple but configurable. Remove friction, never flexibility.
  • Be transparent. Surface relationships early and often.
  • Do it for me. Automate not just repetitive tasks but our customers’ best practices and good judgment.
  • Speed to measurable impact. Every interaction earns its keep.

These principles show up in a consistent flow that keeps you oriented:

Index → Action Panel → Detail Page → Context Preview

Start broad, act in context, drill down, zoom out, all without losing your place in your entire GRC program.

We piloted many of these ideas on the Control Detail Page: a larger work surface, explicit relationships (evidence, automated tests, policies, approvals, risks), and fewer detours. Customers responded with enthusiasm because the experience respected their time and mental model. Now, with the New Drata Experience, you’ll see how we’ve built on the Control Detail Page to architect a fresh user experience that puts the right actions wherever you are in Drata:

Configurable Tables (column order and custom fields/formulas) so power users operate in Drata, not Excel.

Action Panel that transforms control tables into an AI-powered command center—highlighting failed tests, overdue evidence, and next best actions.

Full-Screen Views that give deep work real space, organized by tabs, not confusing drawers.

Utility Bar that pulls tickets, tasks, conversations, and agentic experiences into every page allowing for collaboration without context-switching.

Context Previews so evidence, policies, or linked content open inline, without losing your place.

New Drata Experience Dark Mode

Oh, and lest we forget… Dark Mode has finally arrived to Drata.

And it’s not just how it looks. The new Drata experience delivers accessibility improvements across the board, the first step in our commitment to Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) compliance in 2026 so people can work how they work… keyboard navigation, screen reader support, reduced motion, color perception, everything you need.

Design as a Discipline

Product design at Drata isn’t decoration. It’s the discipline that determines how quickly customers discover value and how confidently they scale. Cohesive patterns free teams, yours and ours, to focus on the hard parts. Transparency builds trust. Configurability respects expertise. Accessibility includes everyone. Put together, that’s not a feature set; it’s an operating philosophy.

Good design gives performers—our customers—the stage, the props, and the lighting they need, then gets out of their way.

The Team Behind the Work

The design vision started a couple of years ago, but the actual build moved at breakneck speed. From the first commit to opt-in beta in twelve months. New design system. New technology stack. Everything. Twelve months.

That kind of pace only happens when engineering, design, and product are pulling in the same direction and trusting each other completely. Drata truly is built on trust.

To all the designers, engineers and product managers who poured themselves into this: thank you. This isn’t just a redesign. It’s a foundation we’ll be building on for years to come.

Help Us Shape What’s Next

The New Drata Experience is now in opt-in beta, with broader rollout getting underway in early 2026. We’re inviting customers who want to help us push on enterprise workflows, accessibility, and pattern quality.
