Microsoft Teams Direct Messaging

MAY 23, 2026

Feature EnhancementTrust Management Platform

Note: This feature is available in the New Drata Experience only.

Drata notifications can now be delivered directly to individual users in Microsoft Teams — not just shared channels. Microsoft Teams direct messaging is now on par with Slack.

Why It Matters

  • Compliance alerts reach the right person faster, reducing the time from notification to action.
  • Customers who rely on Microsoft Teams day-to-day no longer need to check a shared channel to find alerts meant for them.
  • Strengthens the Monitoring & Remediation workflow by making notifications more targeted and actionable.

What's New

  • Microsoft Teams direct messages are now a supported notification delivery option in Drata.
  • Supports direct messaging for the following Notification Rule types:
    • Personnel with Pending Actions
    • Required Approvals (for controls)
    • Control Evidence Updates
    • Workflow Updates
  • Supports direct messaging for Custom Workflows using the Send Microsoft Teams message action.

Notes

  • This release is focused on Microsoft Teams direct messaging within the Notifications area.
  • This change applies to the New Experience only. No changes were made to the Classic experience.
  • Direct messages are sent through the Drata App in Microsoft Teams — not to a user's personal chat. Ensure the Drata App is installed in Microsoft Teams before enabling this option.
  • Microsoft Teams does not support sending notifications to private channels.
  • Personal Settings > Notifications must be turned on for Teams notifications to work.
